LINUX CLIENT on domain network

On the login window, in the domain-dropdownlistbox, the domain name appear twice :

User Name
a_name

Password
*

Domain
<LOCAL>
MY_DOM
BUILTIN
MY_HOSTNAME
MY_DOM

Any idea ?

Can you log on via either name? Does this apply to just one client or
many/all ?

Hello.

Before I join the samba domain, there were no dropdownlistbox for Domain choice.

So now I joined the samba domain once, the dropdownlistbox is prefilled from somewhere ( if the username and/or password fields are blank does not matter) with :

<LOCAL>
MY_DOM
BUILTIN
MY_HOSTNAME
MY_DOM

<LOCAL> seems to be the real name; other domain names have no “<” “>” .

By the way, when you log onto the samba domain a trust account is created for the host ( hostname terminated with a $ sign ex : my_host$). This name appear in the splash screen until you log in.
