linux+ certification

Hey everyone-
Still new to linux but loving the community so far. I was wondering if anyone has any recommendations in studying for the linux+certification? I am currently studying for the 101 exam- I got about 8 wrong in the practice exam of my ‘LPI Linux cert in a nutshell’ book…

LPI is different from Linux+ - I would make sure you’re using study
materials for the proper exam.

(The 101 exam is LPI’s exam - I don’t think CompTIA uses that numbering)

If you’re using the O’Reilly book, that’s a good one. I used it myself
(but make sure you have a recent edition, as the exam objectives change
from time to time).

Thanks Jim, I thought they were more or less the same. However, I’m still determined to take the LPI-1 exams. Regular expressions seem to be the hardest so far…

There are similarities between the exams, but the two may not be
equivalent, and the study materials for one may not work for the other.

(I used to work in technical certification, so I know my way around many
of these kinds of programs - and the equivalencies that may or may not
exist. )

Regexes do take some time to get used to, that’s certainly true.

Is there anything else you used in conjunction with it to study for the exams?

I have never done any Linux certification, but I wonder: is that necessary
to do regexes from memory? I know a lot about linux, but I can’t. When I
need one I find out.

ISTR when I took the LPIC-1 back in 2003 it was one of the objectives.

They may have changed since then, though.

Good to know. Thanks again for your insight. I’ll continue to do the exercises in the book

As others have said, CompTIA Linux+ is not the same as LPI LPIC-n.

That being said, the CompTIA Linux+ is “Powered by LPI”[1] and currently
when you take the CompTIA Linux+ exams (LX0-101 & LX0-102) you can
choose to have your record forwarded to LPI enabling you to become
certified in LPIC-1 too.

In addition, if you’ve passed the LPIC-1 exam[2] you’re eligible to
apply for the Novell Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) certification
at no additional cost or exams[3].

So if you pay for and pass CompTIA Linux+ you can get two additional
qualifications for free - that’s three for the price of one!

Are there any good practice exam sites out there? I’ve seen a few but they’re generally only 20 questions long- and pretty different like my 3rd edition o’reilly book
