I have a problem with a linksys adapter. This is my original Thread!
This is the original Thread:
I just installed opensuse 11.1 32bit
Linux design 2.6.27.23-0.1-pae #1 SMP 2009-05-26 17:02:05 -0400 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
I have a Linksys wusb600n, which I understand has a rt2870 chip on it.
I have read many threads on how to install this adapter and nothing has worked.
The closest I got was following this thread, opensuse 11.1 versus Linksys WUSB600n - Page 5 - openSUSE Forums
After doing that, I can scan the signals, but it does not connect. I though it would be the security, so I tried it on the router with open signal, and still does not work.
At this point I uninstalled all the ralink and rt2870 RPMs, and removed any modules that have anything to do with rt2870.
The funny thing is that if I type iwconfig I get this:
Code:
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
ra0 RT2870 Wireless ESSID:""
Mode:Auto Frequency=2.412 GHz
Link Quality=10/100 Signal level:0 dBm Noise level:-143 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
and ifconfig gives me this:
Code:
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:1C:C0:90:FF:75
inet addr:192.168.1.107 Bcast:192.168.1.255 Mask:255.255.255.0

this comes up when I type lsusb

I also tried downloading the rt2870sta driver from Ralink website and compiling it, and following all the instructions. and still no connection.
As I mentioned before, I’m starting from scratch, since I uninstalled all RPMs and modules.
Does anybody knows what could the problem be?
If you need me to post more info, let me know!
I have a similar problem. My wusb600n (linksys) can scan, but it does not connect. the LED on it, flikers instead of staying on as in another card that I have, which is working. I also have a Win XP partition, and the card is working perfectly, so I know is not a broken stick.
I installed the latest Ralink-firmware and RT2870STA fron Alkohe repository. Downloaded the source from Ralink website and copied the RT2870STA.dat on /etc/Wireless/RT2870STA as instructed in the readme file, but still no luck.
I have searched all over the internet and haven’t found and answer, and I see many people have the same problem.
Another strange thing (may be normal) is that I can only see the card if I use network manager. If I use ifup it does not show the adapter, and when I go to network settings, in the line that says “read driver information” it took about 5 minutes to load, after I had the RPMs installed. Now it loads normally.
Here is my info just in case:
