Here’s the problem:
I’ve got a new monitor. Asus VW222U. Native resolution is 1680x1050.
I am driving this monitor from an older laptop which has a max resolution (on the VGA output) of 1600x1200.
So I can’t drive the display at it’s maximum resolution. The best I have been able to do is 1400x1050. While this resolution is close enough, the problem is that the image is stretched to fill the entire display, (which makes everything look stretched/fatter by 20%). I’m not very happy with this since I do some photo work on this machine.
I have played with Sax2 to no end, trying to stretch and squeeze the image (using the timing controls) but if I tried adjusting too much I would end up outside the frequency rate of the monitor.
Any suggestions on what I can try? I know I can’t drive the monitor to it’s native res, but at least I would like the aspect ratio to be correct (not stretched).
Well, I can’t use a different graphic card, since the computer is a laptop.
I’ve played with the resolution and DPI… The DPI doesn’t seem to make any difference.
Anyone know of any comprehensive guides to messing with the X config files running on suse?
I haven’t gone there yet, since I know nothing about the config files, but am willing to try it.
