Yes, and no color too. I think the old rule stands:
Occasional printing -> inkjet
Lots of printing -> laser
But there are real traps in the inkjet market. Absurdly cheap printers (under US$ 100), that come with almost empty 5 ml cartridges. And 5 ml is the full capacity, that’s highway robbery.
Though it is of course a shame that the lightscribe software is not FOSS, we should I think be glad of the SDK provided. That the vendors release such a thing does at least make it possible for lightscribe capabilities to be added to other software, even if the underlying technology is still non-free.
But really, why would we need the software to be open? We’d still be using proprietary hardware with it.
I assume if the “hooks” into the propreitary firmware/hardware are well documented, then by having “opensoftware” one could add more capabilities and more features to the software. But as it is now, one can not add more features to the software.
