Lightscribe CD labeler software under 13.1

I’ve installed the two .rpm files from Lightscribe, i.e. System Tools and Applications. But for the life of me I cannot find an icon to initialize the app or even know how to use these files. Has anyone been successful with this undertaking? Please advise what I need to do. Thanks.

I’m not sure what you installed? I have files that I got from LaCie, they are most likely the same. Mine does not come up in the system, but I found the files in “user” folder 4L I then went into menu edit and selected add a program and “browsed” to the 4L folder and selected the gui program file for starting the program. I also have a special program Icon that I assigned to it and saved this setup. This was all done in KDE - GNOME I can find the file and make it run and show up on the applications list but can’t figure out how to assign my Icon to it.

Hope this helps?

Don’t think there is an icon. The executable is somewhere under
/opt/lightscribeApplications/

Can’t find the subdirectory on my system.

Ahem, 10 minute edit period expired on me:

Just found the subdirectory on my system. Wow, that is a SIMPLE labeler program. Are there any more comprehensive ones available that you might know?

Not that I know of. And googling a bit doesn’t show much promise.

Well, it’s a start. Been googling for a few days now and you’re right, not any luck so to speak of. Thanks!

Have you tried Qt lightScribe | Free Audio & Video software downloads at SourceForge.net

Maybe it might be a little better???

I have not tried with 13.1 yet.

For 12.3/KDE 4.11.4

Find, download and install 2 packages from the LightScribe web site

  1. lightscribe ver 1.18.19.1-0
  2. lightscribeApplications ver 1.18.15.1-0

And from LaCie
3. 4L ver 1.0r6

For 4L to run, you need the lightscribe system software (#1)

4L is better than the basic.
I built this desktop file

cat LaCie4L.desktop
#!/usr/bin/env xdg-open
[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Name=LaCie Lightscribe Linux
Type=Application
GenericName=DVD Label Making Program
Comment=Create professional labels on your DVDs.
Exec=4L-gui
Icon=/home/carl/Documents/SuSE System Setup cjm/LightScribeIconsm.png
Terminal=false
Categories=Application;AudioVideo;DiscBurning;Recorder;

I made my own icon here
