Libreoffice writer garbles text (Tumbleweed, Nvidia)

Hi!

Since I installed Tumbleweed on my old HP laptop I have been having sever problems with LO writer: in short, it garbles and mangles text at every insert or delete operation (that is to say, always), and scrolling always leaves behind blank pages or even VERTICALLY deleted lines (ie, only the bottom half of the characters in the line are showing). i have to scroll repeatedly and/or select text in order for my text to reappear/get ungarbled.

I do not have this problem with any other application.

After intense googling, I saw the same problem reported for setups with NVIDIA cards. The usual workraounds are

  1. turn off hardware acceleration in LO
  2. turn off compositing effects in the WM

but they do not work in my case. My setup is as follows:

GeForce 8400M GS
2D driver: nouveau
3D driver: nouveau Gallium (8.0.4)
Linux 3.6.5-10-desktop x86_64
LibreOffice 3.5.413

any help would be MUCH appreciated!

You should ask then in the tumbleweed forum, not here. Or ask the thread
to be moved.

Will be moved. Please refrain from posting until the move is complete.

Moved and opened.

Main question: how did you move from 12.2 to Tumbleweed?

sorry for posting in the wrong place

by following the instructions here:

Portal:Tumbleweed - openSUSE

that is, i deleted my old repositories and installed the ones listed on that page.

Since i moved to Tumbleweed, the kernel has been updated several times, but IIRC, the ‘garbled text’ problem was there from the start
