I’ve been having this problem for quite a while now, hoping it would get fixed eventually.
I am unable to use LibreOffice, because as soon as I select something ( for example a menu, an image), my whole desktop crashes. I have no idea what’s causing it.
I’m using the open source Radeon drivers with Plasma 5 as my DE. Also, Tumbleweed is fully updated.
I don’t know if this will help but recently I discovered I had two versions of LibreOffice installed on my system. I’m using Tumbleweed and after I updated to version 4.4.3, I discovered that there were still some 4.4.2 packages installed including the main libreoffice package.
Definitely. If Xorg suddenly crashes, it’s often an issue with the graphics driver.
What card do you have? Maybe you could try to install the propietary fglrx driver. The latest Beta should work fine on Tumbleweed if you install it with Sebastian Siebert’s latest script: https://www.sebastian-siebert.de/
Forgot to mention, I use an AMD A4-5100 APU with HD8670M.
Well, switching to fglrx might prove problematic, since Tumbleweed has never kernel versions and all, incompatible with the Catalyst driver ( even with Sebastian Siebert’s version, if I’m not mistaken), and to be honest, I’d rather avoid it if possible, since it’s quite buggy. Hopefully, it will get fixed soon, since it’s quite annoying.
Again, the latest Beta should work fine even with Tumbleweed’s current Xorg version.
And Sebastian Siebert’s script contains a patch for Kernel 4.0.
But yes, it might break (at least for a while) if there is a new kernel/Xorg version in Tumbleweed.
and to be honest, I’d rather avoid it if possible, since it’s quite buggy.
Well, I cannot comment on that, as I am not using it (I don’t have a supported card…).
Hopefully, it will get fixed soon, since it’s quite annoying.
To get it fixed, you should probably file a bug report against Xorg/the radeon driver. Although it might also be a Kernel bug (part of the radeon driver is in the Kernel).
