I’ve installed LibreOffice 4.4.0.3 on OpenSuse 13.2 from the factory repository by updating 4.3 using Yast. This latest incarnation will no longer print on my system. The printing box comes up and the program hangs. This is not a LibreOffice problem, but a problem in the OpenSuse version. The generic version of LibreOffice 4.4.0.3 downoladed from the LibreOffice site prints just fine from my system. I’ve reverted the Suse version to 4.3 which prints. I’ve uninstalled both versions and installed 4.4 again from scratch in Yast and it still doesn’t print. In the mean time, I’ll use the generic version which works fine. Is this a known problem?
What ‘Printer language type:’ is selected?
The setting is under the File pull-down menu,
- File,
–Printer Settings…,
—Printer Setup,
----Properties (button),
-----Device (tab)
then try ‘PostScript (Level from driver)’
hth
OK, I checked that. That is the setting in the OpenSuse version by default. When I looked at the generic version of LibreOffice, I found that it was set to ‘Automatic: PDF’, rather than PostScript (Level from driver). While this setting wasn’t available in the OpenSuse version, when I set OpenSuse to plain ‘PDF’, it printed correctly. Likewise, when I set generic LibreOffice to ‘PostScript (Level from driver)’, it hung up like the OpenSuse version. Setting it back to ‘Automatic: PDF’ allowed it to print correctly. Looks like it is a LibreOffice problem after all and, judging from the default setting, something they know about.
yes, it being going on for years
I just toggle between the entries until the printer works
the working setting often changes from version to version
there seems to be at least 2 sets of packages for libreoffice and they are not always synchronised wrt print set-up between versions
Thanks, I didn’t know that. If it happens again, I’ll know what to do.
