LG encore to 12.3 desktop data transfer

I can plug my LG encore smartphone into the USB port of my windowsXP equipped laptop and see it as a removeable disk drive. Is it possible to do this with my openSUSE 12.3 desktop?

I would imagine so, do you see any messages in the output from the
command dmesg when you plug the device in?

No sir! I get no response when I plug the device into the USB port. The LG gt550 encore must have a proprietary OS it is about 5 or 6 year old technology. Would that have anything to do with the problem? The phone only starts charging…

Hi
Any output from the command lsusb? There is an application called usb_modeswitch, run as root user to see the options, then see if that will work.

I have noticed that any thumb drive will disappear after some time. When this happens my 4 port (external) hub goes dead too. a reboot will fix it. this occured in 12.2 also. The hub seems warm to the touch but not hot.

Hi
Is it a powered USB hub? If not you may be drawing to much current… Getting hot and devices disappearing doesn’t sound good either.

Can you plug the device in direct to the computer? Can you also point out your device in the lsusb list…

I plugged it in directly and it worked! YEA! The hub is NOT self powered, and it is getting pretty old too. Time to ditch it I;m afraid. I’ve stated it before when you have helped me in the past Malcom and I need to say it again…You ARE the man!! Thank you for your help
