I have a Y580 that I am trying to install onto. When I boot, I get the welcome screen so I select Install. The screen turns black, and stays that way. I have tried adding modeset=0 as a boot option with the same results. I think it has something to do with my video cards (intel and nvidia 660m) but how do I get the installer to just use the intel one during the install?
Also try in the 1st boot menu, under the video option, ‘nokms’ (if it is available). There is also the boot code ‘nomodeset’ and I do NOT know if it does the same as ‘modeset=0’
You can also try the ‘safe settings’ install which may boot with the ‘x11failsafe’ boot code option.
I believe this laptop has hybrid graphics, so ultimately after you succeed with an installation (where the graphics may initially appear a bit crippled) you may need to go here: https://forums.opensuse.org/english/get-technical-help-here/hardware/484188-setup-bumblebee-primus-opensuse-12-3-a.html and install bumblebee and primus.
Good luck.
