Lenovo T410 Stability Issues | Crashed 4 times within the first 2 days

I have just installed Opensuse 11.3 running RAID 1 on my laptop with a second hard drive- X86_64 and I have to say this version of Opensuse although looks nice and I can see many graphical improvmenets, it has crashed 4 times already within the first 2 days of me installing it.

…which makes it even more unstable than Windows…

I have been using Opensuse 11.1 on a T40 (32 bit) and that has been running extremely smoothly with no problems but the new T410 with Opensuse 11.3 has been riddled with instability issues and other installation issues.

Are there any solutions?

Btw definition of “crash”:-

  • Mouse Stops moving - CAPS Lock button stops working - Ctrl-Alt-Del does nothing - wireless light and the LED next to it keeps flashing - Wait 5 minutes and still everything is frozen

Hello,

i would try 2 scenarios:

Thanks for the advice - will try the graphics driverupdate. As for installation on a single HDD… Is RAID 1 on two hdd not stable?

Don’t think so, just mentioned is 'cause it’s something unusual in laptops and i had no further idea of what could be a potential source of error in your laptop

I tried to use another 2nd harddrive - in fact the exact same make and model name as the primary harddisk (Seagate 320 Gb 7200 rpm) and it still had problems- when running RAID 1 - however after upgrading the graphics driver to the NVIDIA drivers… I haven’t had any crashes… Fingers’ crossed - will keep everyone posted.

Been using Opensuse 11.3 with the NVIDIA driver installed and haven’t had any crashes and the system has been stable.

I just experienced a crash when I opened GIMP. Wonder what GIMP might be doing to cause the crash.
