[Leap] XFCE integration and development

Hi guys, first post here.
Long time Ubuntu user, I’ve hopped on several distros lately. Now, after extensive testing on VM’s, I want to basically stick with openSUSE, Leap release.
Over the weekend I plan to install it on my primary rig (Dell E5540).

I have already tested XFCE on a VM, actually it seems less “tasty” than Xubuntu but giving it some more appeal and customization does not seem a problem at all.
I would like to stick to XFCE because I know it quite well and I like a ight DE.
Gnome would be a second option, KDE…nope (just a matter of personal taste, though).

The question or concern I have is how is XFCE supported in openSUSE. If I have well understood the mainstream DE’s are Gnome and KDE, so I would not like to have a less updated DE’s just because focus and resources are elsewhere.

Thanks in advance and please excuse me if this sounds a stupid concern…

I don’t really have an answer, because I mainly use KDE. However, XFCE would be my second choice, and I do regularly install it.

Many of the applications used in XFCE are the same applications used in other desktops. So those are regularly updated. The desktop environment itself doesn’t seem to change very often. But isn’t that the whole point of a light weight desktop – there is a lot that needs to be continually tweaked.

XFCE in Leap 42.1 is at version 4.12, which seems to be the latest available. I don’t expect it to be upgraded to a newer release in 42.1. If there is a newer release by the time that 42.2 comes out, then I would guess it would be there for 42.2.

Take a look at this link.

Thanks guys for that info.
Actually I tried XFCE (which is still my favourite DE, whatever distro) but I have experienced too many issues with my hardware, especially related to sound and network.
After some hours of investigation and troubleshooting I gave up and give Gnome DE a try (Gnome comes second in my DE’s list): well, all the problems were gone, so I am sticking to it.
