So, there was a big update available for OpenSuse Leap this morning. After installing the update I found that I had Tumbleweed and GNOME DE was not working. I got the problem fixed but I’m wondering how I ended up with Tumbleweed.
probably a wrong repo, post your repo list
zypper lr -d
Is there a way to roll back? Or is it easier to just reinstall? I don’t remember adding that repo unless I was installing some software that needed it and I added it by accident.
A downgrade should be possible by removing the Tumbleweed repo and runnig “zypper dup”.
There might be some hickups though, if you hit one please ask.
Or boot from a Leap 42.1 installation medium and choose “Upgrade” at the boot screen (this will actually do a downgrade in this case).
(a reinstall should always be possible anyway…)
But please post your repo list first, as requested.
I don’t remember adding that repo unless I was installing some software that needed it and I added it by accident.
Likely you used a 1-click install that was intended for Tumbleweed, and that added the main repo as well.
I don’t have access to the machine at this time. Someone else is using it for work. I’ll have to try this in the morning. I was looking for a PDF editor yesterday and installed a few things along the way, I may have enabled the repo accident. I’ll check.
When you refuse to answer questions from your potential helpers for some reason, you should take into account that they leave your thread and that you are then on your own because other potential helpers will see your behaviour and go for another, more promising thread.
Just think it over.
openSuse Factory repository was in the list along with other Leap repositories. I am not posting the entire list since I am writing this from a different machine, but I hope that explaining the existence of the OpenSuse Factory (Tumbleweed) repository explains it enough.
I was not able to remove the repository using Repository Management because it would not start. I used the upgrade feature from the Leap disc to restore the system and that worked out smoothly. Everything works fine again.
Big thanks to everyone for their suggestions.
As I explained later in the thread. I did not have access to the machine as someone else was using it at the time. The responses I received were actually very helpful and sufficient to help me fix the issue. It’s not always possible for people to just stay at the computer and wait for responses and reply immediately, especially on a forum. It’s not a live chat session.
It is not that you may have a reason for not gving an answer. It is that you read it, you quoted it and did not say anything about it. The poster there is happy to accept any explanation you have for not being able to answer him immediatly and exact with what he asked for. But completely ignoring is something different.
I see your point, I’ll make sure I don’t do that in the future.
is it possible to get leap to it’s proper state, yes it is and it’s quite simple. although I’ve never had an issue with a tw repo II have tested/used 3rd party repo’s for leap and then gone back to the official packages, the simplest thing to do is to do a zypper dup with the update repo, but seeing as I/we don’t know what tw repo you used our comments might cause more harm, there is absolutely no private data in the output of
zypper lr -d
it just prints out the state of your current repo’s, seeing what went wrong is the first step to trying to help you anything more would be a guessing game and it will do more harm then good.
if you have the install dvd you can do what wolfi suggested and use the disk to get your system to official launch state.
You should tale note that tw uses newer packages that may or may not use different config files so some apps might need a hard preference reset or worse case scenario a fresh new user account (it’s easier to just delete the config files but that depends on you)
I fixed the problem by using the “upgrade” option form the install DVD. I could not get the GUI repository manager started and I’m not familiar enough with terminal yet so I used the simplest approach. I was just hastily trying to fix someones system, one that they were using, so I didn’t have access to it all the time to post the repo list. I got to see the repository list during the “upgrade” process as it listed repositories that got removed and the only Tumbleweed repository was OpenSuse Factory.
I did get things fixed and the system has been running smoothly since :).
Hi, I had the same problem today… this is the result of $zypper lr -d
omendoza@linux-orvu:~> zypper lr -d

Thanks for your help in advance

repo #10 is the culprit remove it, you should also remove the dvd as it’s not neede after install and there are newer packages, consider removing the adobe repo as packman carries flash but adobe’s has a different name so you might have issues adobe calls it flash-plugin while packman (and opensuse) flash-player
let’s start fixing your leap, remove the Factory repo and the dvd, then do a ful vendor change to the update repo and packman as not to break multimedia
zypper rr 10 13
zypper dup --from 6 --from 7
regarding adobe and flash (you will have issues) another time as not to mix things up
I do believe that should fix things if you have any issues write here
