I have Acer E5 -553 laptop which has integrated AMD Radeon R5 Series Graphics. I have cleaned installed OpenSUSE GNOME Leap 42.3. Previously I was using OpenSUSE Leap 42.2 where suspending to ram was working fine. Now when I click suspending menu or close the lid my computer does not go to sleep mode which is understood when the tiny light in my laptop goes to red from blue as in windows. When I click the suspend menu screen goes off and after that, if I click any button or the power button my system does not wake up/ screen remains black. I have updated xf86-video-amdgpu still the problem persists. Please help.
Hi and welcome to the Forum
Can you confirm it’s using amdgpu or radeon…
/sbin/lspci -nnk |grep -A3 VGA
By default CIK (amdgpu) isn’t enabled…
Thank you for your reply.
This the output of lspci

Sounds similar to this bug;
In your log files /var/log/Xorg.N.log.old] does anything pop up about suspend?
How do I see that? I do not see any error (EE) in Xorg.N.log file. I have searched “suspend” word in the both file. But there is no occurrence of the word.

OK, so if you press the power button to suspend, then press the power
button to resume and then press ctrl+alt+F1 do you get to a console
session? If you do, then login as root user and run the command dmesg
do you see errors here?

Same exact is happening with me on my Asus Vivobook. The only thing that works is shutdown. In fact now I just use the screen off mode and disabled both the suspend and hibernate mode otherwise any of those would freeze the laptop and I will then have to force it to shutdown. Thanks for posting and I hoping that we find a solution coz I really like Opensuse.
Hello ibenzawla. Rather than tacking on to this thread, stay with your own thread which you started already…
You haven’t provided the request hardware information yet.
Sorry for so late response. In OpenSUSE leap 42.3 I was not able to open console session because my screen went black after suspend and remains black after I press power button or any other key. However, I upgraded to tumbleweed. I still have same suspend problem here. But, I am able to see the console session. When I run dmesg command I see the following error.
