Leap 42.3 Issues With USB Ports

Hi;

I am running Leap 42.3 on a Gigabyte GA-970 motherboard (AMD)
Ever since I set it up only 2 of the multiple USB ports on it work. All ports have power going to them as I can charge my mobile phone on any of them but none of the ports seem to allow any communication. It’s never been an issue to me, but now I need the additional USB ports to work!!
Bit of a novice with Linux and don’t know where to start but here’s the output from lsusb

The logitech device is my mouse.

Any help greatly appreciated!!

The Gigabyte 970/990 series require some specific bios settings and addition to the kernel command line to ensure that the network card, usb2 and usb3 ports, all work as expected.

That worked. Thanks.

All USB ports now working for mass storage devices; just won’t pick up mobile phones!! (SG7 - Tried in MTP and PTP; no mass storage option.)

I doubt that’s the port, more like software perhaps.

Don’t connect mobile phones myself, so can’t comment.

But FWIY I’ve a couple of Gigabyte 970 PCs and digital cameras in PTP mode work OK on the USB ports of those.

What program are you using to access the phone?

I use Dolphin on KDE Plasma and it always seems to work for me.

Another option to connect to your phone is KDE Connect. You won’t actually have to plug the phone in to the computer to make it work.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the suggestions all.

I think the issue is that the phone storage doesn’t show as a mass storage device; my Sony handycam and my road angel dash cam both show as mass storage, as do USB sticks.

Yep; I use Dolphin as my file manager; KDE connect and airdroid are both ok for small transfers but when I’m moving 50/60gb music or video it’s not suitable.

No worries I’ll just pop the memory card out and into the reader on the PC.

I have used MTP on multiple occasions. It doesn’t seem to give me any issues as well as making large transfers with KDE Connect.

What happens when you try to do MTP file transfers? Does the protocol die or does it not even show up as an option when you plug it in?

What is the make and model of the Android phone?

I’ll give KDE connect another try.

The phone is a Samsung SG7 - Not rooted. All it does when I plug it in is it goes to charging; no option to select MTP etc. Works perfectly with Windoze.
