Leap 42.2 Gnome and no Network Icon on Top bar

Dear OpenSuse Friends,

after my first install I praised I OpenSuse for its stability until the first update made my Leap 42.2 KDE install a black screen - not even ready for deployment.

Now I am trying again OpenSuse 42.2 with Gnome and at least i didn’t get a black screen of death, however, there is no network icon at the top bar and even after i setup the wireless network it still doesn’y show up.

Any idea how to get that network icon?

I am testing this system to get a trouble free stable OS for my wife’s laptop and am not available to fix it for a month or even longer.

Right now, OpenSuse gave me so much trouble which i never experienced with Arch, ever. I got to stop here or I get very impolite and rant about lots of things.

Still, might be a learning curve, just trouble free and stable, haven’t seen that just yet.

Hi
Not using wicked are you? Check via YaST -> System -> Network Settings and on the Global Options tab, is it set to Wicked service? If so, switch to NetworkManager service.

Shame on me, that was set from installation on, changed it and all is good. Thanks a lot for your quick and good help

Black screens are a video problem so what GPU??

NVIDIA GT730, but I believe it is a KDE thing as it didn’t happen in my Gnome install.

I opened another post where I asked how to not get the black screen for the KDE update.

I might just try the net installer and will see what that does, maybe I don’t pull that nasty bit of software doing it to me.

Driver? KDE does not always like nouveau :’(
