Leap 42.1: torture for eyes

I used OpenSuse 13.1 for a long time without any troubles(and without additional turning).
But unfortunately there is strong discomfort for eyes with Leap 42.1.

I 've tried to resolve the ussue by replacing defaul video driver with Nvidia one. No results and no ideas what to do else.

My system:

Intel Core 2 Quad
4 Gb Ram
GeForce 8500 Gt
Dual monitors :
Philips 244E DVI 1920x1080 primary
LG 20EN33 VGA 1600x900

KDE plasma 5.5.5
Qt 5.5.1
kernel 4.1.20-11-default
OS 64 bit

Refrash rate = 60,
Rendering backend = Xrender
Font anti- aliasing = on

I stuck with this.
Please guide me how to configure the video-system to avoid the eyes anguish.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t really give us any information about the
cause - can you be more specific about what the video system is doing
that’s causing the discomfort?

Refrash rate : 60 Hz
Rendering backend: Xrender
Vsync: automatic

Dual monitors :

  1. Philips 244E DVI 1920x1080 primary
  2. LG 20EN33 VGA 1600x900

Sorry. I am not advanced user, that’s all what I can extract from my PC.
Could you clarify what kind info is needed?
May be output of some terminal command?

I’m not sure what you mean, I’m guessing the refresh rate is low and this bothers you, start the nvidia config application and set your preferred resolution and refresh rate.

are your monitor’s colours calibrated? do they seem off? 'cause you won’t fix that by merely changing whatever driver you’re using, btw.

Yes, There is feeling as on old CRT monitor with low refresh rate, the eyes get tired very quickly.

Resolution: 1920x1080, refresh rate: 60 Hz(‘auto’ mode also available).
It seems normal for LED display?

Monitors are not calibrated. But there was not problems with old system.
May be set to OpenGL as in OpenSuse 13.1?

yes 60 is normal for lcd maybe try a different desktop, it could be plasma 5’s color setup
try lxqt it’s small and fast and qt5 based

download.opensuse.org is available both via ipv6 and ipv4 with ipv6 having preference, and i am guessing you don’t have ipv6 support(from your ISP) and your system tried to use ipv6. If that’s the case try disabling ipv6 completely from your system and try again.

When you say “discomfort in my eyes” - that doesn’t give us any
information about what you actually mean by that.

I have eye discomfort as well, but it’s because my eyes itch as a result
of the high pollen in the air this time of year.

First I’d check if the monitors are running at their native resolution.

Second, consider posting a screen capture of your desktop so we can see the problem and so give better suggestions.

The discomfort is in both monitors? VGA cables can be inadequately shielded and cause interference waves on screen. DVI OTOH is purely digital all the way, so no interference.

Most consumer non-3D LCD/LED monitors I’ve seen work OK at 60 Hz, sometimes 75 Hz also.

When you say strong Discomfort to the eyes do you mean you have difficulty in reading the screen because of the size of the lettering
? If this is what you mean then your screen resolution is set too high so you need to reduce it provided Leap will let you do so. For some reason Leap will always try to set the screen resolution to your monitors maximum and may or may not allow you to adjust it. I posted on this subject on the 14th of April but so far no one has responded to help!

Resolution and refresh rate are native.
Font size is normal for reading.
Discomfort is in DVI monitor too.
The feeling is same as on old CRT monitor with low refresh rate, the eyes get tired very quickly(no pollen in the eyes:))

It seems too difficult to clarify the issue, obviously I should return to 13.1

I’d go back to 13.2, at least it’s still supported. Or is 13.1 evergreen?

But first, did you try tweaking nvidia-settings? It is a GUI for your card configuration that gets installed together with the proprietary nvidia drivers, not command line. It can be run as user, no root needed.

I tried tweaking nvidia-settings through GUI named nvidia xserver, no results.
However I’ve gone to 13.1 already. The ditro was downloaded from here (https://software.opensuse.org/131/en). Is it Evergreen version?

Yes but support does end in about 9 months I think
