LEAP 42.1 -it is now necessary to boot in failsafe mode

I have been running LEAP 42.1 since shortly after it came out. Recently, after trying to get wicked to give me a fixed ip address, I found that when I booted, I did not have mouse or a keyboard.

Solved the keyboard by plugging an old ps/2 unit.

to get the mouse to fully work, I needed to boot under failsafe mode. Otherwise, the mouse had some functionalily - you could guess where a console was and put the mouse in the console and you could type. However, there as never a pointer associated with the mouse.

This seems to be happening with 3 of my computers, all running LEAP 42.1. On one of them, LEAP 42.1 was installed roughly in the last week.

There seems to be usb problems - dmesg gives me the following:

thanks for any help

The problems you describe shouldn’t be related to each other.

Just wondering…
Are you running the LEAP bytes from the original release?
It’s important on every new install that you update your system immediately at least that one time so that you pull down all the fixes, improvements and new features that have been made since first release.

Run the following in a root console

zypper up

Then, reboot and see if that fixes your problems.

TSU

I am not sure what you mean by LEAP bytes. I can’t remember if 42.0 or 42.1 was my first install.

The installation was quite up to date. zypper up only installed 1 program ‘spectacle’ and remove
‘snapshot’.

rebooting left me in the same state.
