Hi, I wonder if somebody can give some advice.
I have an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS card and 2 monitors and the NVIDIA driver
in KDE/Plasma as installed by default with Leap 42.1. All up to date.
I have been able to use Opensuse with this hardware for years without a
problem, but since an update in Leap in the last week or so I cannot make
the Display Configuration in the System Settings to stick to the way I want
it (nothing fancy, 2 monitors, not unified, and which is the primary monitor
using Folderview).
I tried using the defaults and try NVIDIA configuration utility (yes I saved
the configuration file in /etc/X11/xorg.conf) but that did not help either.
I am at a loss about what to try next.
I guess that the setting in the Display Configuration do not get saved? Is
there a file where this is stored which I could check?
and if I set KDE to run this at startup (from Startup and Shutdown in System
Settings) it seems to work. (Obviously you’ll need to adjust the screen
resolution to match yours).
I have to test it a bit more. I am not sure the FolderView setting is
remembered but at least I have the right screen in the right monitors.
Yes … this is just about the ‘last straw’ with me and LEAP … i have persevered with it for the past two months with a setup that uses four monitors!!! … there are numerous GUI setup and configuration bugs that i have been able to sort of work my way around … i want to keep using it as i am impressed with Plasma 5 GUI and workspace … being able to mix and match four monitors with Desktops and Activities is a brilliant idea … IF ONLY IT WORKED!! … and with this horrible recent bug where if forgets all these Monitor/Desktop/Activity settings that take some time to set up and fine tune … well it is really the last straw!! Enough is enough!.. this distribution is UNUSABLE!! … i find it difficult to believe how it has even ‘made it to market’.
My advice … just stay away from it until it is sorted out.
… and yesterday i ‘came back’ to LEAP to see if there had been any ‘patches’ released to fix this issue … and lo and behold an upgrade to ‘KDE Frameworks’ is waiting for me … brandishing a fix to the ‘sessions issue’!!! … “Whoo Haaa …”, i think to myself, it can’t be JUST ME then!! … so i blindly accept the upgrade … only to find that now LEAP boots to black screens with a ‘wandering mouse pointer’ … OMG what a disaster!! … and to think that OpenSuSe LEAP has been voted the ‘Best Distro of 2016’!! http://goo.gl/HXnIjk … i must be on another planet!
