Leap 16 beta in VB

Hi, I thought I would have look at Leap 16 in VirtualBox. I downloaded the iso and the installation in VB went fine without any issues and after it was finish it asked me to reboot which I did and selected boot from HD. A blank (black) screen then showed up but nothing more happened. Deleted the virtual machine and tried once more with same result (as expected). I assume I am doing something wrong so any tip is appreciated. If it is not possible for now… all fine, I was just curious, I have no plans to replace my TW which works perfect.

Thanks

Check that “Display” is set to “VBoxSVGA” and ignore the warning “Invalid settings detected”. I have Video Memory set at 64 MB if that matters.

I have Leap 16 installed in a KVM virtual machine. It won’t boot unless I choose an older kernel.

Hmm, I just booted an older kernel. It turns out there’s a new kernel available (kernel-default-6.12.0-160000.16.1). I’m updating now. I hope that will solve the problem.

You can perhaps boot the installer, and check which kernel it is using.

Solved, turned out to be the wrong boot order in VB machine settings. I thought selecting Boot from hard drive in the GRUB menu was enough, it wasn’t.

An other topic, but does Leap not come with a desktop installed?, I do get the login prompt, but no desktop or GUI. I suspect this is about my limited knowledge .

sudo zypper install patterns-kde-kde solved it :slightly_smiling_face:

Probably didn’t disable / remove the bootable ISO (install) entry in the Storage option of VBox. (common oversight).

Also, the DE choices are shown during install … unless there’s now a bug with Agama DE options
