I downloaded skypeforlinux-64.rpm from the Skype web site. Installation halts with the message “internal error.” Any ideas for a solution?
Maybe there are more errors shown, if you install it wirh zypper:

Search for “Skype” from the openSUSE download URL: <https://software.opensuse.org/>.
The Leap 15.0 Skype package is available from the “network:telephony” repository: <https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/network%3Atelephony/skype>.
Yes, yes, I know, from the download page <https://software.opensuse.org/package/skype>, Skype is only available as a “experimental” package «possibly due to the “Redmond” influence» but, this means it’s OK to use and, according to the Project page, it’s been passed by the openSUSE build process …
Remember, the openSUSE software search site brands everything backed by solid community development as “Experimental” while higher risk personal projects are categorized merely as “Community”
