Leap 15.3 and Brother network printer

Hello, after performing a fresh install of Leap 15.3 I’m struggling to add my Brother MFC-L8900CDW network printer. YaST Printer is not able to find it via the Connection Wizard (printer is plugged into the network, not on wifi) and when searching for drivers with YaST Printer this model doesn’t come up. Not having much familiarity with setting up printers on Leap (or other distros), I wonder what my next steps should be? Brother provides a LPR and CUPS printer drivers as rpm packages but I’m not sure if this is the best route to take. If anyone has any advice on the topic or ideas please share. Thanks so much!

Kris

Yes, install the Brother driver packages.

LPR or CUPS or both? Or maybe the Driver Install Tool (which is supposed to install both)? Here are the choices from Brother: Downloads | MFC-L8900CDW | United States | Brother

Thank you.

I usually download and install the LPR driver then the CUPS (wrapper) package myself, and configure CUPS manually as required. However the driver installer can be used to “simplify” this process for you.
