Just used
Leafpad 0.8.18.1
to replace a string in a log file, but instead of replacing, the original AND the new content is now present in the file.
Replace function broken in Leafpad?

Maybe time to consider another editor
Leafpad is a treasure - a clean and simple gui text editor. I am ever grateful to it’s developers.
Best let the developers know.
Following tannington’s helpful link, and reading down, I see:
"Claimed fixed:
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=5831
I suspect some distros are using a patched version that fixes things."
Go openSUSE, be kind and have fun.
If you did want an alternative, then another lightweight text editor worth a look could be Featherpad GitHub - tsujan/FeatherPad: Lightweight Qt Plain-Text Editor for Linux
It’s available in the openSUSE repositories: https://software.opensuse.org/package/featherpad
