Yesterday’s TW update 20230709 included many upgrades of KDE components from 5.107 to 5.108.
Although I can move my mouse down into the lower 1/3 of the screen, NOTHING can be selected (or typed into, etc). Very strange. And oddly, I’m having the SAME ISSUE on my MicroOS KDE/Plasma in a VM) I recently installed … it ALSO got that “KDE update”. It’s like the lower 1/3 of the Plasma screen doesn’t even exist !!
A couple of screenshots to show the behavior.
Screenshot #1 - I have a Kate window up and placed within the upper 2/3 of the Plasma screen - notice the mouse is hovering on the “Search” tab on the lower toolbar - and notice that it is circled in green, indicating that it is current, and if I click the mouse, the Search tab will be selected.
Screenshot #2 - I moved the Kate window down and placed within the lower 1/3 of the Plasma screen - notice (again) the mouse is hovering on the “Search” tab on the lower toolbar - and notice that it is NOT circled in green, indicating that it CAN NOT be selected!!
I got on my phone, browsing around to see what’s new, and I see this post. I was concerned because I also got yesterday’s update (using KDE Plasma too).
So I immediately went to machine #1, booted up and checked it. Then I rebooted into machine #2 and checked it.
No problems here with both machines. I purposely placed various app windows (like Kate) into the lower 3rd of the screen … I can select things, and type, etc in the lower 3rd. I’ll check the 2 laptops later.
You say the same problem happens in the MicroOS VM ? Maybe it’s because the lower half of its window is sitting in the lower 3rd of your Host machine screen? Might check that.
Maybe do another fresh boot from a power off state and test again (?)
I have NO idea what happened. I powered down the laptop for a few minutes, then booted back up fresh. The issue is gone. Kind of embarrassed
But I will answer as hui asked
