I’m showing the same version info you do except for the gnome entry (no
gnome here) on both of my laptops and they have no problem with
NetworkManager. Funny thing is, one has never had the problem (Intel core
duo, Intel chipset and wireless) while the other (AMD Atlon, nvidia
chipset, Intel wireless) stopped working after the last update then started
working again with the revised version posted a few days after the update.
If the original (installation version) worked for you, you can always enable
the repo-oss or your installation DVD and install that version from there
with Yast.

Do you see any errors in /var/log/NetworkManager? In particular look for
problems “getting secrets”. If that is the problem, look at the contents of
/var/run/dbus/at_console/. If it contains a directories other than your normal
login name, delete such values.
The most common problem is actually in dbus - there is a new version in the
pipeline. See
Latest DBUS update meant to fix this problem doesn’t work at all. Just applied the updates today. Some other updates came along with it. Now you cannot even get the wireless working by backing out HAL, DBUS, and NetworkManager to the versions from the DVD. They have put something else in play which makes it impossible to get your Verizon Wireless working now.
Get logged on today however you have to do it. Let your update manager automatically update your networkmanager. Reboot. Click on the little world icon and select your previously defined wireless connection.
Oh-Joy!!!
And to think, I’m close to closing a deal on a new out of town/state contract where I would need the wireless to work.
