Latest Leap. Video not playing on Firefox

Hi Everyone,

I have switched from Tumbleweed to the latest Leap, as per recommendations from previous Forum questions.

The installation was great, the printer & computer love the OS, and I love it as well.

I don’t know whether this is an OpenSuse issue or within Firefox, but when I watch videos on YouTube, there is no issue at all, but when I play using other sites like DailyMotion, Vimeo, etc., either the embedded player has the clickwheel spinning all the time, or nothing at all.
And refreshing the page does not make any difference.

Can you advise on how this issue can be fixed please.

Thank you in advance,
Michael

No issues here, although I’m on TW, that should not matter

If you have Packman, have switched to it?

This thread is tagged as Leap 15.6, but the “latest” Leap is 16.0: can you confirm please?

I downloaded the ISO from the site 11 hours ago. It is 16.0.

I apologise for the version error.

I only have Leap 16 on a virtual machine with serious performance problems with videos anyway, so I cannot check for sure (YouTube and Vimeo videos seem to load and at least start playing but then CPU goes to 100% and that’s all…).
Some general info that might be useful to those that can check on real iron…

We never use FF, but I thought I’d test. I tested at Dailymotion and Vimeo (we don’t visit those sites) and yes, the video’s are very erratic and (watching our SystemMonitor) the CPU usage skyrocketed for FF entry (plus the CPU fan kicked on, which is rare for this laptop).

Terminated FF and waited for the CPU to settle down. Then I fired up the Brave browser (Beta release) and watched the same videos - no problems using Brave - CPU usage normal, no jerky videos.

Thank you everyone for your support so far.

I will get in touch with Mozilla to see what fixes they recommend.

As this is a fresh install of the newest Leap. Are there any recommended things I need to do, such as installing plugins, patches, etc.?

Thank you again everyone for your support so far.

I did a google search and found a fix. Although the solution was AI Generated, it did work.
Just search in google “opensuse leap 16 videos will not play in firefox”, follow the instructions and all good.
