Last Update of Thuderbird? Has Damaged Text and Highlighting Function

Running openSUSE 13.2 with KDE 4.14.9 Desktop and using Thunderbird email client.
Last night I ran apper to upgrade system and since then the window fonts have all shrunk and the bold highlighting of unread messages has gone. It seems the same problem with font has occurred in Firefox so it is probably a Desktop issue. The fonts in this message and in email messages themselves are still OK. It is only text in the application that has changed.
I have logged out and in but no joy. Any ideas?

Maybe your repository list is relevant. Please post “zypper lr --detail”
inside code tags.

No idea who Overman79 is. I think it stems from when I was trying to get catch-up TV to work, hence Pipelight.
The machine now has an Nvidia graphics card. The onboard is AMD and cannot be turned off in BIOS.

Is there a clue there? Last time something like this happened it cured itself with a reboot but not this time.

It is still there but I shall post this and see what happens.

Hi Robin,
Going back to last time I recall this was a problem with Nvidia driver not keeping up with the system updates. I have just checked screen resolution and it has dropped to VGA mode.
Are there any quick fixes? Trouble is I have no idea which change has caused the problem so will find it difficult to revert. As I said last time, pity the KDE people don’t use Nvidia cards.
Regards,
Budgie2

I have no problem at all with NVIDA cards with KDE. But then I don’t have an on board AMD GPU either. I went out of my way to be sure the CPU did not have a built in GPU. Think it is stupid idea for desktops. Maybe makes sense for lappies and slabs maybe.

Note that if you simply added the NVIDIA card and did not run mkinird to register it you may have still been using the on-board GPU. An updates may have rum mkinitrd and thus changed the hardware setting.

Are you sure you can’t turn off the AMD GPU???

Since you have the AMD_Graphics_Driver repo but not the NVIDIA??? Is there a reason you did not install the NVIDIA driver?? I suspect some sort of mixup in the drivers. I know I’m confused so I expect the updater is also.

No. The request was to run “zypper lr --details”. You still forget to
type the word “details” with a double dash in front. Without it, the
output you paste is insufficient.

Hi Robin, sorry about that.
There is a suggestion above that I do not have the correct driver installed. I am sure I did have. In fact the AMD on board graphics is no longer supported so I had to get the Nvidia driver working. However I recall the on board graphics did give me VGA so I wonder if the upgrade has caused the Nvidia driver to fall down and system has fallen back to AMD? Just a thought.
Meanwhile here is what I should have sent before.

Remove the AMD driver and repo if you are not using.

Hi and thanks for the replies. I have revisited the threads I started on this in Hardware forum and the solution I found with Wolfii’s help. Unfortunately reinstalling the Nvidia driver does not work as it has not yet been revised. My system has therefore fallen back to VGA on AMD. If I remove it I would have no graphics at all so will put up with issue and hope the Nvidia driver will be updated soon.
Thanks again,
Budgie2

I’m not a graphics expert, so I’d better let someone else handle it.

I don’t see any obvious problem there, at least nothing that could cause
your issue with fonts. :-?

The Overman79 name sounds familiar, I don’t know why… ah, yes, it was
used for bumblebee in 2012, but not since 2014 or thereabouts. Your
system is an hybrid, so that’s the reason you added that repo at some
point. You should remove it, but check first what you had installed from
there, and replace it. Or remove it, I don’t know.

You have another problem with “Perl:_extensions” repository. It is
enabled with refresh disabled; you should enable refresh on it.

I see you have both nvidia and amd repositories, because you have both
types of hardware, but you don’t use the amd card. I think you should
also remove the amd repo and whatever was installed from it. I’m not an
expert on graphics, but it is possible that you have incompatible
software from both.

What do you mean?
The Nvidia rpm driver does not need to be updated for a stable release.
