Last Update of KDE broken

After yesterday update of my Tumbleweed (zypper dup) the KDE Plasma is broken.
Every start of KDE Plasma breaks, tries to restart, breaks again. I had to switch to terminal (init 3, init 5) and use GNOME instead.
Does anyone have the same problem? Any idea how to solve it?
Thanks

You mean when you try to login?

Have you tried there a
zypper dup
once more?

I can log in, but after the desktop icons and menu bar is painted then it breaks, restart, breaks. Interestinly, under Gnome I could start the plasma on top with the command ‘systemctl --user plasma-plasmashell.service!’ and KDE runs on top of GNOME with no problems, and start programmes as well. So i figure out some configuration issue of this plasma service.

Yes, many times, but no KDE packages are updated.

I started with root, it gave me a message for the new version of KDE and the run with no problems, so I suggest the update messed up with my configuration for the previous version. I have to search which is going bad. I don’t want to loose the configuration deleting the . folder

I made a back-up of the .kde4 folder and restarted the KDE again, no solution. It keeps on breaking indicating the Plasmashell service broke. I need help from someone knowing well KDE, it seems to work underneath althought the desktop shell do not. Thanks again

Add a new User and login to KDE with this User.
Does it work?

I reinstalled all the kde packages and stiil don’t work, see my cometars below. Thank you for your help

The .kde4 folder is not relevant. Logging in as root is absolutely a no-go. What you can do is:
rm -rf ~/.config/plasma* This will reset your plasma desktop settings, yet none of the apps.

It works with root user, so I supose with new users with no configuration files as well. see my messages below.

I tried, it changed layout but still keeps on hanging the plasmashell

It works with the new user, so I guess the update broke the configuration for my user (I need to keep the Keyring!, I have encrypted VM)

I have a weird bug with steam, maybe you have it on autostart? The problem I’m having (also since the update you mentioned) is not being able to start it from KDE… so for example the .desktop file or from the icons-only task manager. It just shows the “loading user data” screen and then crashes repeatedly, however when I run steam from the command line it launches just fine. I’ll make a new thread for my issue.

When your Plasma version is 6.4.80 have a look here:

plasmashell crashes with QT_QUICK_BACKEND=software

The page says there is a fix so I would expect the fix to be released soon.

Thank you for the info. Version 6.4.2. Maybe is it this anyway, I will wait

Hi, after the update of today (zypper dup) in Tumbleweed, new versions oft the KDE and Plasma wer installed and solved the problem. The issue can be closed.
