Last update broke my audio

I ran an update Thursday and since… I can’t hear a thing. Now, my hearing is fine… I just don’t have audio anymore and KMix simply won’t run either. No errors - just goes away.

Has anyone else seen similar issues?

OpenSUSE 11.1
Kernel 2.6.27.25-0.1-pae
KDE 4.2

Let me know if I can provide you with more information - thank you very much.

Start kmix from a terminal and see any errors.

No errors - just exits.

Thank you for the reply.

This will teach me to never do the “express” update.

In a terminal do:

rpm -qi kmix

Post result

rpm -qi kmix
returns: package kmix is not installed

rpm -qa | grep kmix
returns: kde4-kmix-4.2.4-2.13

Have you tried re-installing kde4-kmix?

(sorry but mine is just kmix now with the dropping of the kde4 prefix)

I actually just did reinstall. Is there a way to look back at what has been updated so I can back track and see what has changed. With the last update came a new kernel… and I’m afraid my issues may be related to that.

/var/log/zypp/history

you’ll need to scroll down to the end.

Do you fancy posting the output of

zypper lr --details

Looks like I need to do some repo housekeeping

Dude. What OS are you using 11.1?

Because a load of your repo’s are 11.0

If you are 11.1
Remove all 11.0 and let’s see what you have left. (No wonder your in a mess)

Yeah done. My system is 11.1. It was updgraded off of 11.0 and I never cleaned the 11.0 repo’s off. I’m going to make sure all the 11.0 is gone and re-run the updates to see what happens. I’m not convinced this is the problem because, stupid or not, it has been running this way - and updating regularly with out issue.

Thanks for your help caf4926 - I’ll send you a beer!

Just a note on upgrading from 11.0
It doesn’t always work that well. The method commonly used from the terminal as su is:

zypper ref
zypper dup

But only do this once your repo’s are in order. Guess you have been lucky it worked for so long.

caf4926 - thanks again. It was Kmix. Removed the bogus repo’s, ran zypper ref, then zypper dup… I have Kmix back and my audio.

On another note… I’ve never been on a board that has someone who responds so quickly.

You’re the best bro!

Let’s hope everything will be OK now. Sorry I missed getting back until now, I had to try and sleep.
