Did fresh install of OpenSuse 11.4. Now my Compaq laptop won’t boot at all, it gets hung up on the orange screen and won’t even let me go into BIOS if I hit Escape key. I have unplugged the hard drive (thinking that would reset it?) but to no avail. I have tried taking out battery & leaving out for a few hours, then replacing, to no avail. Things were fine before the OPenSuse 11.4 install. Anyone have any ideas how I can at least boot into a live CD? Thanks.
Try and tell us about the Laptop. Is it New, does it have BIOS in the old traditional sense?
What is an Orange screen?
Get a manual for the machine from Compaq

Installing openSUSE cannot prevent the BIOS from running. That you saw when you
disconnected the hard drive. Unfortunately, you have some kind of hardware
problem. If the CMOS got corrupted, you can fix the problem by clearing it.
Perhaps you might need to remove its battery. Otherwise, you will need a
hardware expert.
Whatever is causing your machine to fail to boot is not likely due to openSUSE.
It was just bad timing.
It’s a Compaq Presario CQ62-219WM, notebook PC, Intel Celeron processor 900 (2.2 GHz, 1MBcache, 800 MHz FSB), 2GB DDR2 system memory, Intel Graphics Media accelerator 4500M with up to 797MB total graphic memory, 6-cell Li-Ion battery. I bought it new, it’s about a year old. I think it does have BIOS in the traditional sense (not sure). The orange screen is what shows up on initially turning power on, the COmpaq symbol is on an orange screen, and it says “hit Escape to enter setup menu.” This is the default behavior I’ve always seen with this laptop on turning power on. But after the OpenSuse 11.4 install, it gets hung up at that point. I cannot even hit Escape to get into the BIOS environment. I do have the manual.
To clear the CMOS, does that entail just unplugging something if I take panel off? I can always GOogle it. Thanks so much.
Yes, Google should help here.
I concur with @lwfinger
The problem is not a result of openSUSE install
