Laptop suspends when lid closed from a console

I’m using XFCE on openSUSE 13.1 on a Dell Precision M6500. I have the config set in XFCE to do nothing when the lid is closed. That works when I’m in the GUI. However, when I switch to init 3 to run backups from a script, the system suspends as soon as I close the lid.

How do I disable suspend during my backups?

I guess systemd takes over power management, when no graphical desktop is running.

Thanks, that fixed it!
