oS 16 on ASUS laptop goes dark, as expected, after period of 10 min as configured in power management. On waking up from mouse button, the login screen displays but doesn’t respond to key presses. I’m using an external keyboard (Vortex) on USB port. Only workaround I found is to power-cycle. Happens on older Toshiba Satellite too.
I occasionally have a similar problem - it was there on Leap 15.6 also. I’m running xscreensaver, and for me, killing the xscreensaver proc cures the problem every time. Just figured this out - haven’t done any more debugging

The least you could tell us is which DE / WM we are talking about. Anyways, are you aware that screensavers on todays screens do no save anything? They use more power, wear the hardware than just dimming / turning off. Also, the screenlocker be look the same as the login screen, but it is not.
Something wrong with the sleep/resume of the USB subsystem?

The process list doesn’t include xscreensaver. My config is to dim the screen.

DE == Desktop Environment, like KDE, GNOME, XFCE, etc.
WM == Window Manager.
And as requested by @Sauerland , you did not provide the output of
uname -a

Using KDE Plasma 6.4.2; would X11 be the windows manager?
