Laptop HP6830s can't boot

Hi all,

On my laptop hp 6830s is installed Windows vista and opensuse 11.1. I worked many months with the kernel 2.26.xx.21 pae, after this I build a new kernel with 23 pae. As I modify the boot order on the grub in yast to start first with this new kernel, I become boot problems.
Now the boot process on my laptop loops, it tries to start but it does not find any bootloader and it can’t boot from DVD and it reboots permanently.
Thanks for your help.

Can you please explain a bit in what stage are you? Are you getting Grub’s
menu?

OTOH, you said you are unable to boot from any cd or dvd media (not sure if
this is because you have no dvd reader or it’s just a bios setup problem),
but how about usb? Can you boot from usb?

Hello,

Thank you very much for your response. It’s effectively not an opensuse problem. I take my laptop hard disk in another pc and the grub functions correctlty. It’s a laptop problem. I wrote with yast the bootloader in the mbr on hard disk, so I would know if the mbr info properly for hp would erase through this process?

Hello,

I resolve the problem. First we must create a new bootloader with yast “from a master boot sector” and take by option of the bootloader “write generic boot code on mbr”.
