Laptop Display Troubles

Hi People,

I’ve been having a real hard time getting my video to work properly. I’ve got a rather generic laptop that originally sold by infoclick.ca. The laptop, according to infoclick, is a TTX notebook Model VX+ (755SI4). Apparenly, there were only around 100 of there units sold here in canada, which is maybe why I can’t find any information on it. Perhaps, the information is somewhere in the driver download for the VX+ on this page…

Notebook Drivers and Manuals

but if it is, I can’t find it. A tentative search on google revealed nothing of value, (mostly just more drivers), but it did return a whole bunch of other language links. I’m thinking that the information I need is probably on one of those other language pages. If anybody knows or can find out anything about the display is on this laptop, I would greatly appreciate that information.

The display wasn’t properly detected during installation, and I am currently booting up with a vga=0x317 option, to force a resolution of 1024x786x32. if I, or a program or game, try to change the resolution to either 800x600 or to 640x480, the only other options available at this time, the resolution will change, but it just shrinks on the screen, so that my desktop shows on the upper left side of the display, with the left and bottom edges filled with whatever the last pixel of each line is.

Also, when changing video modes, the display will sometimes go blank. I can almost always get it to come back on by changing between virtual terminals, but sometimes it takes several tries. And if I close the lid, the display never comes back on. In that case, I have to do a hard shutdown and restart.

This is absolutely unacceptable. I have all of my work data on this machine, and when I’m not working, I like to play games. I need this machine to work right, and I think it will if I can just tell it what the monitor is in the saX2 X11 configuration.

Anyhow, if anyone can help me identify this display, or can help in any other way, I would really appreciate that information.

Thanks in advance,

sTony

What Yast>Hardware>Info (or the command hwinfo) lists for your display and video chipset?

What video driver are you using?

What is the native resolution of the display?

Here is my hwinfo with irrelevant pieces cut out.

Unfortunately, I still haven’t found out what my native resolution is. Thats the biggest problem! I did manage to find out who the manufacturer is though. It’s Service but I still can’t find the info I need, and they haven’t gotten back to me yet. Any Ideas?
