Laptop asus z92 + wireless cardbus

Good day all,

I recently cleaned my asus ( z92 from… 2008 ? ). I had the famous overheating issue. I opened the laptop, cleaned everything ( dust ). Then it works better but I still got issues with LAN stuff. So I tested lots of linux distro and the best I found was OpenSuse ! Really nice for managing hardware

I removed the built-in wireless ipw2200’s like which seems buggy and switch to a wiresless carbus. Everything seems fine - I can connect, etc… - but sometimes the wireless card don’t show up at startup and it starts top be really anooying :frowning:

I can get two patterns:

  • OpenSuse boots but stops: If i pressed escape, I have an error message with “Try something like pci=assign_devices”. I already tested that in the past, does not work
  • OpenSuse boots but only the ethernet card is available or none of them.

Often I shutdown, wait a few seconds, restart in failsafe mode, shutdown, wait a few seconds, restart and that works again. Motherboard issue ? Don’t know but the bios shows all the bridges every time.

Thanks for any help

The next time your wireless is down, run both

rfkill list

ifconfig wlan0 up

To install rfkill:

zypper in rfkill

Thanks ! I’ll give a try soon if I can use it :-/ I have to give you some new informations: I did the update to OpenSuse 11.4 since. Not shure if it is related, but when i shutdown the computer, If i start again, now 95% of the time OpenSuse stops booting, and if i press escape i got some errors, often with lines like “Controller never releases inhibit bits…”. So actually I have to unplug the wireless card, restart computer, replug and it works. No ideas what’s wrong. Settings ?
Today I bring my laptop to work to test with other wifis.
As soon as i can i will try the rfkill. If you have any idea, you’re still welcome
