Hi,
i just wanted to try kwin4 in kde3.5 (kcontrol -> KDE Components ->
Session management) and it seems to work just fine with only one
problem: the background is just a black area with the exception of the
two transparent panels, where you can still see it. Does anyone know
this problem and how to fix it?

It’s just the way kwin for kde4 works. Normally the default option is
not a folder view which right now You’re missing:) If You press right
button on mouse what’s on then?

Just found the solution: you have to check show symbols on desktop (even
though there aren’t any on my desktop anyway)

It’s a desktop view. there may be a missing dependancy or something. try
installing plasma, plasma-workspace. It’s plasma missing i think.
