Kwin and Compiz issues

Whenever i try to download the new update from the tumbleweed repos i get this error: compiz-kde4-0.8.8-150.10.i586 requires kde4-kwin, but this requirement cannot be provided

Tumbleweed issue go here :-

Press the triangular icon at the bottom of each post to move the thread to appropriate forum

And where do you have compiz-kde4 from?
I only see compiz-kde4-0.8.8-6.5.1.i586.rpm in the update repo.

Please downgrade to that version, that one should have no dependencies issues with the updated kwin.

sudo zypper in -f compiz-kde4-0.8.8-6.5.1

But “zypper dup” ,which you should use for updates with Tumbleweed, should downgrade that automatically.
Can you please show your repo list?

zypper lr -u

If one paste bin site does not work for you, don’t get hung up on failed attempts in using it. There are many paste bin sites on the web where large text content can be shared. For example:

It is plain text, it could simply have been pasted here in the thread,
using code tags. Advanced forum editor, ‘#’ button.

De compiz version mentioned is not in my repos. This means the OP has other repos active. Nothing to do with Tumbleweed, which has no KDE packages.
The conflict arises because the compiz package needs a different KDE version.

BTW: why compiz + kwin?

This repo causes your problem:

Index of /repositories/X11:/Compiz/openSUSE_Factory

Please remove it.

And please have a look at your repo list.
You have a mixture of Tumbleweed, 12.3 and Factory repos there (and one for 12.2). No wonder if you encounter such issues…

Btw., f.e. KDE:Extra and Packman is available for Tumbleweed, so please change those URLs. (I don’t want to check all the others)
And you don’t need both openSUSE-12.3 and openSUSE-current…

is a full blown guarantee for a continuing story of misterious problems. My 2 cents: do yourself (and others :)) a favour and perform a fresh 12.3 install. From there on, stick to the 4 distro repos + Packman.
Not only do you have a version mixed repo set, the packages installed have the same issue. Fixing this is gonna cost lots and lots of time.

the thing is some packages dont have tumbleweed repos.

More effects. and spinnan cubez!

Wel, if you care about those extra effects, I guess you want them to run properly. Not gonna happen the way your system is “tailored” now.
A couple of no-goers from your repo list:

  • Completely wrong base for Tumbleweed
  • Mix of 12.2, 12.3, Tumbleweed, Factory.
  • Two Compiz repos, for different versions.

I’m in for support and helping out, but there’s an end to what can be done in a reasonable amount of time. Perform a clean install, stick to a single version re. repos. From there on I see all the options to help you get the experience you’re after, but not like it is now.
