Kvpnc on Gnome desktop

I almost have my system setup how i want -

When i used KDE i used Kvpnc to connect to a cisco based VPN without any problems after i imported my .pcf config file.

For other reasons i have to use the Gnome desktop but i cannot get Kvpnc to run. On starting i get the opportunity to enter the root password but then the application seems to disappear.

OpenVPN is not an option (as far as i can see) because of the support for Cisco.

any direction appreciated

Does running vpnc from the command line work (as root)?

thanks for the advice. Yes it does run as root from the command line.

What settings do i need to change to have it run from the icon as a user?

Thanks again -
