I installed OpenSUSE 12.2 on my laptop. I then installed Krita as I wanted to edit an image. It did not work. It causes a segmentation fault and does not open. To get more details, I launched it from konsole and here is what it says (I could not get any hint about the reason of the crash):
KCrash: Application 'krita' crashing...
KCrash: Attempting to start /usr/lib64/kde4/libexec/drkonqi from kdeinit
sock_file=/home/vaibhav/.kde4/socket-linux-suse.site/kdeinit4__0
When I try to install debug symbols, openSUSE says that it could not find the software sources. Also, kdenlive isn’t working. What am I missing here? I need krita for my work.
YaST of course. However I had updated the KDE from 4.8.4 to 4.8.5 using Apper (it notified me of updates). May be that would have broken some libraries? Is there anyway i can upgrade the full KDE SC to 4.9?
Well, first of all, there are other ways too. Moreover, your answer is not complete, from which repository did you install it?

Yes, but I doubt this is the most prudent way to solve the current problem. You would have to add the KDE49 repositories and then switch system packages via yast.

I would guess something like that only if it worked previously.
I know there are other ways. I have used openSUSE quite a lot (no offence mate) and I know its behavior. But I used the GUI. When installing, I had used the ‘Update’ repo IIRC. But I tried changing repos as well as versions but that did not work correctly.
googling for your konsole output, I found multiple suggestions referring to delete KDE temp files as stated above. The posts were related to various KDE application crashes but not KRITA ,so I don’t know if, and why, that should help (since you never actually startet the application)…it might be worth a try though if nothing else helps…
I tried and it did not work. I am already installing KDE SC 4.9 from the repo you pointed (had discovered earlier, but many thanks anyway for helping me out on that). Will let you know it the new SC gets the job done. I
