krfb and krdc how to enable and configure?

I have a desktop machine running Tumbleweed with KDE Plasma. I’d like to share the desktop with other computers on my LAN.
How do I configure and enable krfb and krdc to allow that? They are installed by default on Tumbleweed.
I see nothing in YAST or in Configure Desktop relating to those 2 pieces of software.
Thanks
Steven

Just run the applications.

KRFB on the desktop you want to share, KRDC to connect to it.

And you probably have to disable the Firewall (on the host which desktop you want to share), or at least open the corresponding port in YaST->Security and Users->Firewall.

YaST only caters for system-wide settings, KRFB and KRDC are user applications.
You wouldn’t try to configure LibreOffice in YaST, would you?

Well there is a setting for remote administration in YAST.
It installs a bunch of X11 packages and supposedly starts the service
I enabled that and the system crashes if I try and activate.
The Desktop collapses and dumps me out at a command prompt.
I’m not sure of how to proceed here.
I am going to disable the service and try to enable it from the desktop as you say.

I’ve got it working now as I disabled remote administration over VNC from YAST and enabled desktop sharing from the desktop.
Actually quite simple but the info I saw online was very dated and confusing as to what I’d actually have to do.

Yes, this enables a system-wide VNC server (and XDMCP), allowing you to graphically login via the network.
But it doesn’t allow sharing your desktop.

KRFB is a stand-alone user application, that shares the currently running desktop session over the network.

KRDC is a VNC client, and can connect to both.

I enabled that and the system crashes if I try and activate.
The Desktop collapses and dumps me out at a command prompt.

One problem is that you cannot run two KDE sessions for the same user at the same time.
So if you are locally logged in to KDE and try to login remotely as well (to KDE too), the second session will just crash during login.

I’m not sure if that’s what you were experiencing though. Your description sounds more like Xorg is crashing.
Is your system up-to-date? IIRC, there were some problems with the VNC server shipped in 13.2, that have been fixed via updates.

Yes TUMBLEWEED is up to date. zypper dup done yesterday.
As it’s working with that remote administration thing in YAST disabled I’m good.

Of course, sorry.
There might be a problem with the VNC server in Tumbleweed currently though, no idea.

Fine.
But as indicated “remote administration” in YaST actually serves a different purpose. It does not share a user’s desktop, it allows users to login via the network and run their own session.
