I have set updates to automatically be done monthly. But several times a day / every day, I see a little notification ‘checking for updates’ I am thinking it is kpackagekit not going with my settings. How do I shutdown updates permanently so that they occur only when I want them.
Where did you set the interval? Packagekit does not do automatic updates, it only checks, and only the interval for the check can be set, which in my case works as expected.
Iclick the update applet that showed on the taskbar with a right click and set configure updates. There I set it to monthly and it shows monthly when I go back to check it. But serval times a session it says checking for updates in notifications.
Hmm, my system never checks for updates, except when I tell it to (using “zypper” or “Yast”).
Right click on system tray. Select “Configure System Tray”.
In the “System Tray Settings” window, scroll down until you find “Software Updates”. Uncheck that box.
That’s all it requires. The only time I am bothered by updates, is when I login to Gnome. There does not seem to be a way of telling Gnome to never check.
No, you’re right-clicking on the panel. Locate the triangle (or area containing the network, volume etc widget icons) and right click > Configure System Tray > …
Found it clicked off system updates
FWIW FYI Leap 15.0 upgrade to 15.1 keeps old functionality click anywhere on system tray on right hand side gives the option to configure system tray.
Fresh install of 15.1 you have to actually right click the hidden icons arrow to configure system tray.
