Folks,
New to openSUSE but I’ve been trying to configure Kopete with Facebook Chat and get the following error:
There was a negotiation error: Unsupported protocol version. XMPP 1.0 is required.
I have searched the forums and also looked through the wiki for a solution all to no avail. Any thoughts on what could be the issue? I should note that I used the configuration suggested by Facebook on it’s chat page.

How did you add the account in Kopete. It works fine on my machines with FB accounts. I think you selected the wrong protocol when creating the account.
Remove the account from Kopete
Add a new one
Accounttype: Jabber (XMPP, jabber, Google Talk)
Next screen : YOUR_FB_USERNAME@chat.facebook.com , your password, check “remember password”. OK, OK.

So in other news, take the simplest path no? Being dutiful I look up the settings on Facebook which had me override the port for the server…
