Hi,
I recently installed 11.0 on my desktop computer as a clean install, upgrading from 10.3. I went to use kooka this morning to scan some receipts that I needed to turn in for work, but it didn’t work. Here are the problems:
There are no buttons on the gui that will allow me to do any scanning, nor are there any selections in any of the dropdown lists on the file menu for scanning. The basic function of the program, to control a scanner is not available.
I thought that perhaps I would have to select my scanner so it would know which device to control, and then I hoped that perhaps the scanner function control buttons might present themselves. I attempted to select the scanner using the dropdown list and the toolbar button, in either case nothing happens and I can’t select a scanner.
I need to include a little more info than what I gave in the first post.
I can go into Yast to select and setup the scanner, but when I try to configure the scanner Yast goes into neverland. The little progress wheel spins and spins, but the program can never resolve to allow me to select a driver. It won’t ever resolve, and the gui goes featureless and won’t present any information.

I had the same (openSUSE 11.0). I tried detect scanner with Yast GUI several
times. Finally I tried ‘yast scanner’ (ncurses mode) and it magically
worked.
Tear off (undock) the Scanner Settings window and resize it so the Preview and Final Scan buttons show on the bottom – they are there, but not visible in the default GUI.
