Kooka file formats

Suse 11.1

Kooka, the kde scanning application offers to save its data to the following filetypes.

BMP
EPS
JPEG
PBM
PCX
PGM
PNG
PPM
RGB
TGA
XBM
XPM
XV
jp2

Each time I am confronted with this list I wonder which is best. I end up using jpeg most of the time because I know I can easily edit it. I have also used png in the past. What do other people use ? The RAW file format is popular in the digital camera world, but not in Kooka. I would prefer something that keeps most of the detail. I can then convert it to jpeg or something else to send the file elsewhere.
Some time ago I heard that the pgn format had been improved. Can anyone verify this ?

It depends on various factors. The following links will give you a fairly good idea:

Ok, thanks for the links. They point me back to the png file format. It does most of the things that I need. It would be nice for Kooka to have a one line explanation for each choice. Maybe that can happen when and if it is upgraded to Kde4.
