Hello hmanzer, can you tell us more about your setup? What openSUSE version do you use, what Desktop and version do you use? Have you added any repositories to your system from the default? What kind of “stuff” where you installing exactly? Any information you can provide will be helpful.

Thank You,

Hi James,
I am using OpenSuse 11.2 KDE 4.3.5
I had no card games, So I was installing KPat from the opensuse packages section. I did install everything on every exception that I got, without much reading.
Now after its done. KDE view is totally changed.
Now I can’t open my konquerer to see my KDE version or the dolphin for some folders.
Thanks.

The error that I get when I open the konquerer is below
Cannot load library /usr/lib/kde4/konq_aboutpage.so: (/usr/lib/libkhtml.so.5: undefined symbol:

If you have more than the four repositories listed above, you could cause yourself
some trouble. In general, repositories must given a priority when you have
more than four. If you do not understand how this works, please ask for help.
Listed below are the recommended repositories you should keep enabled.

 * Main Repository - http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.?/repo/oss/
 * Main Repository - http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.?/repo/non-oss/

Here is a terminal command I would like you to run called “zypper repos” and post the results here. For reference, I have posted my results, but I am on openSUSE 11.3.

Thank You,

Below are the results. I also noticed my kde version has changed

kded --version
Qt: 3.3.8b
KDE: 3.5.10 “release 32”
KDE Daemon: $Id: kded.cpp 711061 2007-09-11 09:42:51Z tpatzig $

So my basic thought is it will always be a problem trying to maintain KDE 3 in any supported version of openSUSE. It is possible you may need to drop back to the beginning to put your desktop back to right.

How to install Opensuse 11.2 with KDE3 (From scratch)

I do notice that one line in your repos shows this:

13 | openSUSE:11.3:NonFree | openSUSE:11.3:NonFree | Yes | Yes

I wonder if it should be pointed to openSUSE 11.3 as you show.

Also consider my message showing the repos I use. I am using openSUSE 11.3, I am using KDE 4.4.4, but even so, I have the KDE 3 repository added. I can use KDE 3 applications such as the standard games, screensavers and even Kaffeine from KDE 3 all in KDE 4. Further, you can switch the desktop to folder view and set the kde menu to classic. It is really the best of both worlds. Anyone trying to use the KDE 3 desktop these days is surely trying to swim upstream. It is not an all or nothing proposition, you can have your cake and eat it too. Just a few parting thoughts on KDE 3.

Thank You,

@hmanzer

IMO that repo list is not for the faint hearted. If you want help, I can offer some advice. But you will need to get rid of repo 1,2,3,4

I can offer replacements. But tell me if you want to proceed

Hi Caf4926
I have got rid of the repos. Please help. Below is the new config

OK
If you want a stable and up to date kde do this as su -:

zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/45/openSUSE_11.2/ kde45
zypper ar -f http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Extra/openSUSE_11.2_KDE_Release_45/ extra45
zypper ref

(a) accept always if asked

Now switch to Yast > Software Manager and do this on the kde45 repo
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/10573557/Switcher%20Pics/package%20switch%20kde.png

You can do the same on 45extra if you have any packages in it.
