KNode on 11.4M3

Anyone using it? I noticed it is extremely slow downloading new headers and switching between newsgroups.

Having the same trouble here. Click on a group - go and make a cup of tea -
come back and headers might have loaded - click on header to read message -
drink tea whilst it loads - read then click on next header - play a few
games of solitaire whilst that loads - read message . . .

My impression is that nobody has been working on knode development for a
year or so. At least that’s what I’m guessing by the lack of response to bug
reports. I know Thunderbird has a bug that’s been unsolved for ten years but
at least I occasionally get e-mails showing that someone is looking at it.

Just “upgraded” to KDE 4.6 b1 and Kontact and Knode no longer work so
I’m back with Thunderbird for a while.

Here’s the error message from Knode:

kde(5018): Communication problem with “knode” , it probably crashed.
Error message was: “org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply” : " “Did not
receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not
send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the
reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.” "

I’ll make a bug report soon when I’ve made a few more tests.

Uwe

  • Graham,

can you check with M4, please?
Here it behaves much better now, but I’d like to hear a 2nd opinion

I’d like to help but Kontact doesn’t work in M4, or at least the KDE4.6b1
version doesn’t. I’ve also tried launching Knode alone but have the same
problem. https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=655969

Mine works in M4, so it must be KDE related.

Thanks
