I have do a new install of tumbleweed and I try configuring knode.
I cannot enter the data for the identification (Identity). the field is not accessible and it seems that some entry fields are missing if I compare with the help.
I can add the news servers and the setting on the other tabs and can fetch groups and messages. But no posting because there is no identity:(
Starting it from terminal shows
knode(1482)/kdepimlibs (kpimidentities) KPIMIdentities::IdentityManager::readConfig: IdentityManager: There was no default identity. Marking fir
st one as default.
knode(1482)/libakonadi Akonadi::AgentManagerPrivate::createDBusInterface: AgentManager failed to get a valid AgentManager DBus interface. Error is: 1 "org.freedeskt
op.DBus.Error.NameHasNoOwner" "Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.Akonadi.Control': no such name"
I don’t use kontact and akonadi
I had a look in kontact and it seems that knode is used therein for the news group. The identity selection is also inactive therein

[FONT=times new roman]Any idea why the field identity is inactive or blocked? I assume that iit must be entered in another program.
But (most parts of) KDEPIM use akonadi (exclusively).
Any idea why the field identity is inactive or blocked?
Because you haven’t created one yet?
I assume that iit must be entered in another program.
Try to setup the identity in KMail. Knode shares the identities with Kmail.
You should then be able to select it in Knode.
If you already created one, you should be able to create an identity in Knode too:
click on “Identities” in the settings, and click on “Modify”. There is an “Add” button in the dialog that appears.
You probably have to add an account in the “Accounts”->“Mail Server (SMTP)” settings too though.
Other than that, Knode is dead and unmaintained (since years) unfortunately.
It has even been dropped completely in the recently released KF5 port of KDEPIM.
I added the identity in kmail (strange name “New identity”) and then in Knode I could add it.:shame:
I use knode since more than 10 years and have a lot of saved messages: this is the reason why I want still using it.
It works also very good for crossposted messages and filtering.
Well, actually I would call it a bug, that you cannot create a new identity in Knode itself if none exists yet.

Yes, but the problem is that nobody develops it any more since years. Not even bugs are fixed.
If somebody would step up as maintainer, I’m pretty sure it would then be officially readded to KDEPIM again too. (it hasn’t been ruled out, somebody would have to volunteer though)
That said, Knode still contains a lot of old KDE3 code AFAIK, so it’s impossible to port it to KF5. It would have to properly be ported to KDE4 first, which nobody bothered to do in the last 8 years… :\
