For one of the users on my system, knetworkmanager abruptly ceases to autostart once on a while. This happens once in roughly 10-15 days. When that happens, i have to go into .kde4/share/config/networkmanagementrc and manually toggle Autostart=true (from false). This trick works for another 2 weeks or so, before the value of “Autostart” automagically changes to ‘false’… and i have change it again.
I dont mind doing it manually, but the user in question is my mom, and she does not have the know-how to do it herself when i’m not around.
This strange.
Maybe someone will have come across it before, but not me.
Have you tried deleting all network related files in .kde4 ? And re-configure it completely.
or (and I’m not sure about this) could you make that file read only ?
You don’t mention what version of opensuse you are running.
If it is 11.3 or 11.4, then try switching to the plasmoid networkmanager applet. It seems to be more reliable.
Just use Yast software management, and search for “networkmanager”. You will recognize the plasmoid from its name. When you install that, knetworkmanager will be uninstalled.
When you still want to find out why the change to *false, *you could start with looking at the timestamp of the file where it is in. Maybe you can correlate that with some action from the user. Though I admit it might be difficult to get that information from a user (like “Mom, what did you do yesterday at 10:31 o’clock on the computer?”)
Yes i have tried removing the file networkmanagementrc file and reconfiguring… but it does not seem to help
For now, i have created a new user so that mom can use that login whenever her network does not autostart.
nrickert: i am using 11.4
hcvv: i dont think its got to do anything with the actions a user does… because its happened with me when (after doing some minor troubleshooting) i did a system reboot from that user’s account and network did not start automatically.
