Just updated, I am on 11.2 Milestone 2 - 2.6.30-rc8-6 (pae) . I wanted to see if KMix muted problem was cleared.
With this update its not muted, it’s totally ****ed. I had no sound and no Kmix on reboot. Started from terminal gives errors and says it probably crashed – no kidding.
kmix: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libkdeinit4_kmix.so: undefined symbol: _ZN12Experimental17KNotificationItem14setToolTipIconERK7QString
<unknown program name>(4838)/: Communication problem with "kmix" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply" : " "Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)" "
Yast>Hardware>Sound>Other>Volume told me that Master was set at zero (not normally so). I set it to 80 (normal for me) and had sound, but no Kmix on relaunching it – same errors.
Well it is factory, but anyone else get this or care to comment…

I have Milestone 2 (2.2.6.30-rc6-git 3-4) from factory with KDE 4.2.85
(4.3 x) with Kmix (4.2.85-1.3). when I installed it the other day I had to
adjust sound also. It was not muted, but way down low. My sound works with
Amarok2, system sounds. Have not tried kaeffine yet. Sound system is
intermittant, sometimes I have to go to YaST or configure desktop and play
with the controls to get sound.
Which Repo did you get the Beta version from. I just have factory oss and
non-oss enabled, plus packman.
Just tried to add knode but the repository must be off because it gives
error when trying. It has dependency issues like kbase-runtime (version
will not update.
Also when I try to install the Nvidia driver, I get a depencency on
kernel:time, cannot install the driver. Do I need to recompile the driver
somehow? Using one from Nvidia’s website.
Well, you are using Milestone 2 and updating from the factory repos when Milestone 3 is still about 20 days away. So, I wouldn’t be surprised that things are breaking when you’re living on the bleeding edge like this.
Personally, I’m waiting till the devs get a little bit closer to Milestone 3 before I do any updates.
Upgraded using factory repos Oss and Non-Oss, everything else disabled. It will depend on the mirror you get. On mine, it wasn’t there on 10th when I tried. It was on 11th, but others installed it on 10th.
I don’t have nvidia, so can’t help with that. Can somebody else please help @upscope above with nvidia?
Yes, I updated KDE but not Milestone 2, ie the newer kernel et al. KDE 4.3 beta 2 comes from the KDE4:/Factory while Milestone 2 comes from the factory repo/oss/suse.
That may explain why I was a day or so behind seeing KDE4.3beta2. I prefer to stick with the same repos, even on a testing partition. I am more interested in what changes between milestones on 11.2 than I am in using the latest widgetry, or dolphin v. konqueror on KDE4. At least the error tells me KMix is changing. Maybe next time, say 11.3, I will just update for the milestones.
Eventually KDE4 will reach the higher ground having retreated to find a better route there. Even though you are using KDE4:/Factory, that is still bleeding edge.
Don’t have the problem with kMix. To me it seems that there’s a wrong package somewhere in your KDE4. Take care that you have no ‘red’ packages is Yast.
As for the NVidia driver: make sure you updated everything concerning the kernel and kernel-sources. So compilers etc. as well. Otherwise the driver will not compile. If you did an install, just the kernel-sources it not enough, you need the pattern ‘Linux Kernel Development’ installed.
I’m still amazed about this much quality and stability.
@Knurpht
Yes indeed, neither do I have that KMix prob now. After reading your post, I checked Yast. Apart from the packman and my video driver “reds”, to be expected, there was at least one red and quite a few kde4 blues, including a PolicyKit rpm. I tried zypper up/dup with the Factory Oss I had used for the last big update. The blues wouldn’t update because there was a missing .90 oxygen theme dependency that I just couldn’t get around. When I tried to force individual rpms via Yast, other dependencies started to unravel. I then decided to disable both Factory repos. I added and enabled Factory:KDE4 followed by zipper dup. Quite a few packages installed and no missing oxygen themes etc. After reboot, everything felt better again. No sound yet, but Yast>Hardware>Sound>Other>Volume showed master volume at zero (that happened before). Having adjusted, KMix had started unmuted (yes!). Just to be sure I deleted my users .kde4 file in /home and restarted.
Now I can agree once again about this much quality and stability. Thanks to all who helped here.
Well after today’s reboot, KMix came up muted. It’s a minor irritation, and one now shared with 11.1 following its recent kernel update (or P/A update).
the temp work round (as it does become annoying having to re-set kmix everytime) is to uninstall everything with pulse besides libpulse and libpulse-mainloop-glib
